INSIDE THIS ISSUE

Inside Issue 1 of Performance Unlocked

Every month, Performance Unlocked brings together articles, practical tools and news from Horton Consulting for dental practice owners, practice managers and the whole dental team. Here’s what’s in the November 2026 issue.

Introducing The Horton Academy

Horton Consulting is now an approved EduQual Centre. Through The Horton Academy, dental professionals can gain formal recognition for their learning, starting with two EduQual Level 3 Awards:

  • Award in Professional Dental Reception: a 12-month programme covering patient communication, new patient enquiries, front-of-house systems and complaints handling. The founding cohort starts in January 2027.
  • Award in Treatment Coordination: now part of the TCO Business Growth Programme, with 12 months of training and mentoring from Laura.

An Award in Understanding Treatment Coordination is planned for 2027.

How to build and keep a brilliant team (free guide)

A free guide for practice owners and managers on the issues that shape team performance: telling capability problems from disciplinary ones, whether WhatsApp groups are damaging team culture, why good people leave, how to stop avoiding difficult conversations, and how to build a team that works well together.

You don’t have a strategy problem. You have an implementation problem.

Drawing on her MBA studies and almost 30 years in dentistry, Laura explains why so many practice plans stall after the training day. The article looks at ownership and accountability, what your resources say about your real priorities, and why consistent follow-through matters more than another new idea.

Ask Laura: stop mopping up mistakes

A practice manager spends two hours a day fixing her long-serving reception team’s mistakes. Laura explains why defining what good looks like, documenting systems and investing in training works better than constantly picking up the pieces.
